Together we are working for a NSW free from poverty and inequality.
About us
The NSW Council of Social Service (NCOSS) works with and for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage in NSW to make positive change in our communities. The head office is on Gadigal Country. As the peak body for health and community services in NSW for over 80 years we support the sector to deliver crucial services that make a difference. We work directly with communities to identify the challenges they face and solutions that will allow them to overcome those challenges. Through collaboration with communities, services and across government, the private sector and other civil society organisations we work to see these solutions become a reality. NCOSS coordinates a number of policy advice groups, alliances and forums to facilitate policy development and advocacy on key issues for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage, campaigns with communities on key issues for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage and runs annual regional roadshows visiting communities across NSW to understand what is happening on the ground and inform our policy and advocacy work.

Today on National Sorry Day, NCOSS reflect on the hurt and pain of the Stolen Generation, who were forcibly taken from their families and communities. We honour their continuing strength and survival. NCOSS believes that all children deserve to grow up safe and cared for in family, community and culture. Today and every day, NCOSS stands alongside First Nations communities in their fight for self-determination and truth-telling.

Renters are celebrating new laws that go into effect today 👏 👏 👏 From today, these laws mean: - Landlords must provide a valid reason for ending a lease - It is easier for tenants to keep pets - Rent increases are capped to once a year - Tenants can pay their rent by using bank transfer This is thanks to many years of advocacy by renters, community legal centres, housing advocates, and Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Services across NSW!
Great to join Tenants' Union of NSW and other organisations today to commemorate the end of no-grounds evictions in NSW. Today marks the culmination of decades of campaigning and advocacy by unions, political activists, legal centres, community groups, and renters. As Alison Mackey told the rally renters in NSW now have the security of knowing they can’t be forced to leave their homes for no reason.
